ABOUT THE ROLE
The System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures are followed. These activities include the support of I.T. staff in executing, testing and rolling out of solutions.
This individual is accountable for the following systems, including servers and desktops that support parking related I.T. Infrastructure; Windows Active Directory, Application, patching, provisioning and system monitoring that support the Authority I.T. infrastructure. Responsibilities on these systems include provisioning, backups, patching, support and maintenance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
System and Network Installation, Configuration and Monitoring
- Configuration of related solutions for various projects and operational needs.
- Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with TPA standards and project/operational requirements.
- Monitor, implement, and maintain network infrastructure across all corporate offices and parking facilities.
- Maintain routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and VPN connections.
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and optimize traffic flow.
- Maintain network security through firewall management, intrusion detection, and access controls.
- Coordinate with ISP and telecommunications providers for MPLS, SD WAN connectivity and cellular communications.
- Perform daily system monitoring for assigned I.T systems, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
- Respond to security monitoring alerts to validate possible intrusions and escalate to manager.
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
- Responsible for maintaining Antivirus system and Endpoint Firewalls
- Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
- Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
- Provide Level 2 support, and escalation for Level 1 I.T. staff, in the investigation and troubleshooting issues in various I.T. systems.
- Provide Level 1 support for Technicians, to escalate problems with parking technology.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
- Provide Level 1 support for Mobile handhelds and printers.
- Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues. May resolve problems within established practices.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-year college diploma in the field of computer science or information systems.
- 3-5 years related work experience managing or implementing parking revenue control systems.
- 3-5 years of proven experience in IT infrastructure, system administration and parking technology. Technical knowledge of current network, operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards.
- Experience with Parking Technology is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability in solving I.T. issues and problems.
- Demonstrated integrity in dealing with information and issues of a highly confidential and sensitive nature.
- Diligent, detail-oriented, and possess a success-driven work ethic.
- Demonstrates commitment to environment, health & safety: manages risks to protect the health and safety of employees and the public.
